Who is a Licensed Builder and the benefits of Choosing one
A Licensed Builder (LB) is a professional who earns a building license on an annual basis. Credits are earned via courses, lectures and practical building experience. This ensures LBs’ are up to date with the industry’s latest building practices. These types of LB typically commit substantial time and financial investment to operate a company.
Benefits of hiring a licensed builder for your renovation project
Although it is not law to hire a licensed builder for a renovation (in our local area, research if you require a licensed builder for renovations in your local area), in our opinion, hiring a competent (LB) is a critical step to the success of your renovation project. Licensed Builders bring many years of experience, professionalism and trusted trades to your project. While it is not mandatory to use the services of a Licensed Builder in the Sea to Sky corridor (our local area), it is mandatory to use Structural and Geotechnical Engineers to obtain a Building Permit for any renovation and/or addition. Nonetheless, competent Licensed Builders are in the industry, at project sites every day and are up to date with the latest building requirements/codes and local zonings including the industry’s latest technology, products and techniques.
Whereas a new build requires a warranty, a renovation warranty is voluntary. A competent licensed builder will provide a one year warranty.
Also remember that the relationship with your builder can last for months and even years depending on the size and complexity of the project so you may want to feel very comfortable with this person and/or company.
